The Reading House

ABOUT THE

Program

The Reading House is a virtual place on the library’s web page made up of four digital platforms: Multiskills, Odilo University, The Shelf and Léctimus, with the purpose that university students of any level have access to the different critical reading activities offered.

This space has been proposed given the need to improve the student’s performance in the generic module of critical reading and the importance of this competence in the academic and professional environment. Also, because the recognition and use of new ways of learning in our society can achieve a better quality of education for students, “because, oh surprise, there are new challenges. I will just mention a few (perhaps I can expand later). The dominant factor today in information and knowledge is obsolescence. Careers must change. The way programs are built, too” (Wasserman, 2023). Therefore, these platforms aim to respond to new challenges such as the generic competency of critical reading and knowledge of new learning technologies.

Schedule 2024-2

Platform

Multiskills

Platform in charge of performing critical reading diagnostic tests, which take about one hour and 30 minutes, and are adjusted according to the ICFES, therefore, it consists of 35 questions, of which 9 are local reading, 14 are global reading and 12 are critical reading.

Platform

ODILIO University

A platform that allows the University Community to find a great variety of books, podcasts, audiobooks or learning experiences. These learning experiences are a “plus” where teachers can generate different activities, for example, the “learning path” or the “book club”.

Access Odilo University by filling out the UIS Virtual Library credentials, this allows you to enjoy any of its contents (books, podcasts, audiobooks and public learning experiences). However, the critical reading lessons designed by the Library will be in a private “learning path”, with the objective that students who want to access make the respective registration in the “Experiencia ODILO” button, which allows better control of the fulfillment of the activities and adjust the lesson to the needs of that group.

Platform

Léctimus

A socio-interactive reading platform focused on improving students’ performance in critical reading, through a methodology based on what is established by PISA, the International Program for Student Assessment, which is part of the OECD. The main objective is to provide strategies and tools to improve the capacity for analysis, reflection, criticism and discussion of expository, argumentative and narrative texts, through exercises and readings distributed in modules.

  • Module 1. Introduction to reading, in which strategies for reading planning are taught, interests and types of reading are exposed, among other tools for reading.
  • Module 2. Comprehensive reading, focused on global, selective, intensive and punctual reading, indicating the importance of main and secondary ideas within a text, among other issues.
  • Module 3. Critical reading, focused on critical reading and has some exercises of text analysis, interpretation and criticism.
  • Module 4. Discussion and debate, focused on the exposition of the modes of persuasion, types of arguments, counterarguments, the use of rhetoric and other elements of debate.

Platform

The Shelf

A platform that has the best streaming content of movies, documentaries, short films, more than 500 opera and theater plays, more than 40 million songs to listen online and offline all kinds of music, with the best series and educational games, all in Spanish from anywhere and any device. It also transmits film club sessions or live events for the entire University Community.

Access by creating a personal account, choose the country: Colombia, the library: Universidad Industrial de Santander – Bucaramanga and in the Library card number field: your ID number.

It should be noted that the use of this platform will be mainly dedicated to the presentation of films that represent some of the books that will be used in the semester in the new collection of the Satellite Library to make a reflection from the two artistic versions of a particular work and expose the personal position of this activity.

Satellite

Library

The objective of this project is to create new spaces so that the experience of books can be enjoyed in other places on the university campus and thus de-territorialize the Library by providing new alternatives for access to reading in other places on the campus where all students of the UIS Community will be able to borrow any book that captivates their attention.

The satellite libraries will mark the rise of innovative ideas that bring readers closer to the experience of belonging to a library that offers different spaces for co-creation, group work with digital resources, workshops, reading rooms, music rooms, newsletters with updates and reading recommendations. In addition, it is the pilot to think about digital lending in other parts of the city, gamifying spaces and opening opportunities for literacy, love and passion for reading.

Learn about our collections, which have booklets where you can find reviews of the works that make up the collection, along with some QR codes to access the e-book.
